Winery & Vineyards Castiblanque Present their New Wines at Alimentaria 2004

Many are the offerings from this Manchegan winery in this year’s edition of Alimentaria, the International Food and Drink Show. Firstly, they will be presenting their young white wines, ILEX 2003 and the first crianzas elaborated by Castiblanque, BALDOR Tradición Tempranillo 2002 and BALDOR Tradición Syrah 2002 (with information in Braille on the back label). All of their wines combine the perfection of traditional viticultural wisdom of the area with the newest technological winemaking trends that today’s consumers demand. They will also present their new Enotourism Project at Alimentaria 2004. This project, already in operation, was designed by Winery & Vineyards Castiblanque to appeal to visitors of all ages and backgrounds. This flexible program includes a number of different activities to choose from. The basic visit consists of a guided tour through the winery’s facilities followed by wine tasting in the tasting lab. This visit can be complemented by a trip to the vineyards, various gastronomic offers, or a trip to the windmills and old neighborhoods of Campo de Criptana.

With the objective of promoting the culture behind the wine, Castiblanque has also implemented a series of courses that are lectured by specialists on the winery’s premises. Wine tasting, enology and viticulture courses are already in session.

ILEX Airen 2003: Crystal-clear, clean, bright lemon yellow color with greenish reflections and golden edges. Pleasant and open with sufficient strength, fresh fruit and floral aromas. A wine that maintains its freshness and has long intensity on the palate. Its aftertaste is inviting, lasting on the palate for some time giving us a pleasant lingering taste.

ILEX Chardonnay 2003: Shows clarity, cleanliness and golden tones that are clearly pronounced by its toast-colored edges. It has a great visual body with a thick tear and makes us think that this one is a powerful wine. Long lingering aromas, clean and pleasant, sweetly toasted with a slight resemblance to green almond. A wine with great power on the palate, shows a lot of expression and a very satisfactory retronasal flavor, a harmony of candied fruit and toasted hazelnuts, a spicy freshness in the mouth and a nicely balanced acidity.

ILEX Macabeo 2003: Attractive, limpid and clear, pale greenish color with golden edges. Generous, with pleasant hints of fresh aromas that denote harmony on the nose, reminding us of ripe fruit flavors such as banana and blackberry candy. Fresh and balanced, a wine with a nice structure in the mouth, pleasing and with a retronasal flavor that makes us sense the youngness of this wine. Good intensity lingering on the palate.

BALDOR Tradición Tempranillo 2002: Shows cleanliness with consistent fluidity, a calm wine with good intensity of color, with defined edges and hues ranging from light violets to garnet reds turning to orange tones.
An honest wine with good aromatic intensity, spicy characteristics, pepper, wood, vanilla, and fresh lactic flavors, moderately toasted, pleasing on the nose. A supple attack, lactic, becoming acidic in balance with an extract and silky tannins which open up the mouth, a noble aftertaste, oak and orange rind, as well as yogurt.

BALDOR Tradición Syrah 2002:
Clear and clean, dense, well assembled upon sight, a combination of reds, yellows and blues resembling ripe plum tones. The upper middle layer brings it all together making it very visually attractive. Clean, delicate aromas that surface upon aerating the wine. Gives us a licorice nose, leather and tobacco notes, very expressive and well combined. Flavourful, glycerine and unctuous on the palate, with a notable tannic presence.
Natural acidity and woody nuances, giving it as a result its marked structure and leaving us with a pleasantly diverse retronasal sensation
