Baldor Tradición Tempranillo 2002 obtains a Silver Bacchus
and Ilex Coupage 2002 a Bronze Bacchus
BALDOR Tradición Tempranillo 2002 is the first
crianza made by the Manchegan winery in Campo de Criptana. This wine
brings together the traditional viticultural wisdom of the area and
the utilization of the newest winemaking trends that today’s consumers
demand. It has been elaborated using their own vineyard’s production
of 100% Tempranillo grapes, spending 6 months in American oak barrels
with a production of 17,000 bottles.
Tasting Note:
Shows cleanliness with consistent fluidity, a calm wine with good intensity
of color, with defined edges and hues ranging from light violets to
garnet reds turning to orange tones.
An honest wine with good aromatic intensity, spicy characteristics,
pepper, wood, vanilla, and fresh lactic flavors, moderately toasted,
pleasing on the nose.
A supple attack, lactic, becoming acidic in balance with an extract
and silky tannins which open up the mouth, a noble aftertaste, oak and
orange rind, as well as yogurt.
ILEX Coupage 2002
is a half crianza-coupage with a production of 40,000 bottles. Elaborated
with 40% Syrah grapes, 40% Tempranillo, and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon using
malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
This wine has already enjoyed international recognition in September
of 2003 upon winning the Gold Medal in the category, Young Wines, of
the International Panama Wine Fair (Centennial) where they were competing
against more than 1,500 wines from different regions around the world.
Tasting Note:
Cleanliness, vividness, with a youngness and maturity in perfect coexistence.
Ripe cherries on the top layer, with toast colored edges that reflect
its time in barrel.
A balanced and clean nose, ripe fruit, nuances of orange rind, a well
combined ensemble of grape varieties, with a spiced toast and vanilla
base.
Balanced alcohol and acidity that forms a pleasant expression of a serious
wine. Complexity, light candied fruit and lactic flavors form the base
of the structure. The palate is full and flavorful backed up by a nice
tannic structure.
